In The WildWould you like to try out some new skills in the water whilst learning about personal safety around lakes and rivers, and even practice some lifesaving skills, all whilst having fun?
Then you will love the Rookie Lifeguard taster session. It is a 30-minute session suitable for 8-12-year-olds who are confident swimmers.
You will get to try out lifesaving skills whilst in the water at Lake Wilderness.
You will get to practise skills such as personal safety in open water, rescue skills with a throw line, reaching rescues from the shore and more.
All led by a qualified instructor.
Important Info
- Parents need to stay in the area close by however they do not need to enter the water.
- There is a minimum swimming ability required: the child must be able to swim 25m continuously and competently, and tread water in deep water for 1 minute.
- Please ensure any child taking part has a suitable swimming costume and a brightly coloured swim cap.
- For all sessions, meet no later than 10 minutes before at the Colwick Park Lifeguards Flag on the bridge between Lake Wilderness and Lake Superior.
Please note - you must have a valid festival ticket to book an experience at Wilderness.
Refunds & Exchanges
- Please note extra experience bookings are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
- Experiences will only be held for 20 minutes, after that tickets are subject to resale and will be automatically cancelled without refund.

Outdoor Experiences
- Outdoor experiences will take place come rain or shine.
- For any outdoor experiences outside of the arena, unless specified otherwise on the individual booking page, please meet 15 minutes before the designated start time at the Wilderness Meeting Point where you will be met and guided to your experience.
